The eligibility criteria for admission differ slightly for Class 6 and Class 9. These are strictly followed, and even minor deviations in age or documents may lead to disqualification.

1. Eligibility for Class 6 Admission (2026)

Age Limit: The student should be between 10 to 12 years old as of 31 March 2026. This means the date of birth should fall between 01 April 2014 and 31 March 2016 (both dates inclusive).
Academic Qualification: The student must be currently studying in Class 5 in a recognized school at the time of application.
Gender: Both boys and girls are eligible for admission in Class 6.
Nationality: Only Indian citizens can apply.

2. Eligibility for Class 9 Admission (2026)

Age Limit: The student should be between 13 to 15 years of age as of 31 March 2026. The date of birth should fall between 01 April 2011 and 31 March 2013.
Academic Qualification: The student must be currently enrolled in Class 8 at a recognized school.
Gender: As of now, only boys are eligible for Class 9 admission in most Sainik Schools. A few institutions may open limited seats for girls under pilot schemes.
Nationality: Only Indian nationals are eligible to apply.

Why the Age Limit Is Strictly Followed

There is no specific percentage requirement for Sainik School admissions. However:

Class 6 Admission: The candidate must be currently in Class 5
Class 9 Admission: The candidate must be currently in Class 8

Explanation: Sainik Schools do not demand top grades in school, but the entrance exam is competitive. Candidates must have strong fundamentals in subjects like Mathematics, English, Science, and General Knowledge.

Eligibility for Girls in Sainik School

As of 2026, the following eligibility rules apply for girl candidates:

Class 6: Girls can apply for admission in all Sainik Schools across India.
Class 9: Admissions are limited. Only a few Sainik Schools are running pilot programs for girls in Class 9.
